British engineers visit Nepal to assist with Turgo Turbine Project
In April 2019, two engineers from the UK travelled to Nepal to assist with the project funded by Energize Nepal to develop a locally-manufactured, micro-hydro Turgo Turbine. Joe Butchers is a PhD student from the University of Bristol who has been a key member of the project from the beginning. Dr Shaun Benzon undertook his PhD in Turgo turbine design a few years ago and was responsible for running computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations as part of design work.
During their stay, an evaluation visit was made to the proposed pilot site where the prototype Turgo turbine will be installed. Afterwards, several days were spent at the Turbine Testing Lab at Kathmandu University where Nepali and British engineers worked together to install and test the turbine.
