Assessment of low power electric cooking

Assessment of low power electric cooking in Nepal project has successfully implemented in the Simlee, Rukum. With this pilot project, the benefits and drawbacks of the electric cooking have studied in the rural off-grid communities. Generally, women participation was more active and fuel switching from conventional fuels to modern fuels for cooking will reduce women’s workload, time burden and would improve their health.

Installation of solar powered cold storage

The team of PEEDA, DISAN Enterprises and Mukti Energy successfully installed the solar powered cold storage of 5 metric ton capacity in Ward no. 3 of Baiteshwor Rural Municipality, Dolakha. The villagers and local authority supported the team during the installation. The cold storage will also serve as collection center and would increase the market value of vegetable produced locally by the small farm holders. This project would not have been possible without generous support of WISIONS. 

Final round of Essay & Poem Competition in the issues related to climate change

PEEDA successfully conducted the final level of essay and poem competition on issues related to climate change wherein the students from project areas namely Namdu, Mirge, Jungu and Thulopatal participated. As far as the procedure of such competition is concerned, the competition was executed initially in three different schools each of Namdu, Mirge and Jungu respectively whereas in case of Jungu the competition was conducted in one of the school. Exposure Visit on Climate Smart Agriculture Activities

The team of PEEDA visited different sites in Bardibas, Mahottari from 18th to 19th April 2018 along with the other members from  different organizations namely UMN-Nepal, Li-Bird, RRN, NARC and SAHAS-Nepal to observe the activities in relation to climate smart agriculture. The team observed Concrete Irrigation Canal, Water Harvesting pond, drinking water RVT tanks, Home Garden Program, solar water pumping system, sprinkler irrigation and degraded land rehabilitation activities. PEEDA would like to thank Bread for the world, UMN-Nepal, Li-Bird and Community Development and Advocacy Forum Nepal (CDAFN) for providing opportunity for such exposure visit. 

Meeting with the representatives of BfdW and FMSF

Ms. Maria Fiedler from Bread for the World (BfdW), Germany and Ms. Mohini Chaudhary from Financial Management Service Foundation (FMSF), New Delhi visited PEEDA to discuss on the technical & financial progress of the current project namely “Climate Resilient Communities and Sustainable Livelihood Initiatives for Pro-poor of Dolakha District of Nepal” on March 2, 2018. Along with it, discussions took place for next phase of project to strengthen the partnership between BfdW and PEEDA as an effective and long term future collaboration.

Awareness to students on Climate change and Earthquake

Awareness program on climate change and earthquake was conducted to students of project areas namely Thulopatal, Mirge and Namdu of Dolakha district from 24/02/2018 to 28/02/2018. Moreover, second level of competition on essay & poem was conducted among the students and were also mentored by the Nepali teacher on techniques to write good essay and poem. 

Successful handover of 1.2 kW Solar-wind Hybrid system

On 20th February 2018, the team of KAPEG and PEEDA successfully handed over the 1.2 kW solar-wind hybrid system to Ward No. 4 of Nisdi Rural Municipality (state 5), Mityal, Palpa. 

Successful Installation of 1.2 kW Solar-wind Hybrid System in Mityal, Palpa

The team of Kathmandu Alternative Power and Energy Group (KAPEG), People, Energy and Environment Development Association (PEEDA) and National Technical University of Athens/ Rural Electrification Research Group (NTUA/RurERG) successfully completed the installation of 1.2 kW Solar-wind Hybrid System for the electrification of office of Ward no 4 and health post of Nisdi Rural Municipality, Mityal, Palpa. The installation was completed on 16th of November 2017.

20th Annual General Meeting of PEEDA

On 17th November 2017, 20th annual general meeting of PEEDA was held successfully with active participation of members of PEEDA and few invitees. Additionally, the fourth annual publication of PEEDA namely "Energy Insight volume IV" was launched.
